It’s finally here, the 12th week! I am not cheering because the class is over, I am cheering because I made it through and I think I am doing a good job in the class, given my work and family situation. I am glad that in the past 12 weeks, I was able to gain some fundamental knowledge about the history of DE, and really see how this industry has evolved over the years. It also helped me to understand why a lot of academic policies and decisions are set the way they are here at UMUC. I finally feel the connection between my job, the DE industry and all the theories I learned about DE.
Out of all the theories we learned during this class, I found the theory of Transactional Distance (TD) most intriguing, and that’s why I decided to write my final research paper on this topic. During the research, I got more familiar with this topic, and I truly believe the amount of TD a student experience have a direct correlation with student success rate, where low amount of TD leads to higher student satisfaction and academic success.
While I am still deciding if I want to just pursue the Distance Education certificate option or go for the second Master’s degree in DE, I certainly know I like what I am learning. I really enjoyed the co-instructors I had in the class, as well as our TA. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work having 2 professors in the class, but Lisa and Cindy are clearly in sync with everything, and both have clear and defined roles for instructions and student support. I really enjoyed working with both of them and I would like to take this opportunity to thank both of them, and Brenda.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my wonderful team mates that I had the pleasure to work with for the last 6 weeks. It’s difficult to find a good team where everyone can work in harmony. I am truly grateful to have a great team to work with and the projects we were able to accomplish in this class! Thank you Steve, Lyra, Kateema, Jackie and Mahoney! You guys made my first time online group experience a pleasant one!
